MISO RAMEN (and Hirata steamed buns) I have been asking mum for ages to try Ramen.  One of my friends speaks about Ramen at school and I have been wanting to try it for a while.  We have had a Wagamama Your Way cook book for ages.  Mum kept putting it off because she thought it would be hard to make, but it was actually really easy, and now that we've had it we will definitely be making it again and again in our house.   Willa's ratings  Easy to get ingredients: We thought it was going to be hard to get some of the ingredients as we'd never heard of them before.  Like shichimi.  But we phoned Scoop Whole Foods in Lerwick and they had the shichimi, the chilli oil, and the miso paste.  Scoop say that if we ever need anything just ask and they will put it up to the local shops in Whalsay for us to get from there which is really good.  I loved shopping in Scoop. We were also in Tesco yesterday. ( Alison here -  I was very dippy...

BASIL AND FETA MUFFINS WITH PUMPKIN SEEDS                                            This morning we had muffins for breakfast.   Willa's ratings. Easy to get ingredients:  Yes, got them all in Whalsay, been in both local shops this week. JWJ had the fresh basil which was handy for this recipe. Been in Tesco & Scoop this week too, but that ingredients was for Miso Ramen which we are having for tea.   Did I enjoy making them:  Mum made these as it was her idea to try this recipe not one that I chose. Taste:  I gave these a 10 out of 10 - I liked the taste of the feta cheese best.  Mum gives these a 7 out of 10 because she's not sure about the 'claggy' consistency, but thinks she maybe could have squeezed more out of the courgette.  Also we never let them cool before taste testing so mum thinks she might like them better when...

THE HUMBLE  OMELETTE! Tonight we had omelette for tea.  I was very excited when mum told me that's what we were having. I had P.E at school today, and swimming right after school and was very hungry.  There are lots of different ways that you can cook an omelette, and different things you can put in it.  We have a 'peerie pan' so that we can make our own individual ones so that we can choose what to put in it and don't all have the same thing.  (Nina didn't even want an omelette so had waffles and side salad instead).  I chose mushrooms, onions, and peppers.  Mum fried those up on the pan until they got soft, and then asked me to add the eggs and skimmed milk that I had mixed up.  I added the egg mix and then mum added a pinch of Shetland sea salt, and some garlic pepper and a sprinkle of mixed herbs.  After I had added the eggs, mum stirred for a bit, and then I added a sprinkle of Orkney cheese on it.  Mum took the fish turner an...

Super Seeded Flapjacks   Tonight I was at Livister at the Ability Shetland Youth Club.  Katie helped me to make flapjacks. These are the photos of us making them. We had a really good fun.  Katie was being silly so she gets a 0 out of 10 for making them.  Joanne gets a million out of 10 and Emily gets a google out of 10!   This is the recipe from the Fast 800 treats recipe book.   Willa's ratings:    Easy to get ingredients - Yes Easy to make - 9 out of 10 because Emily didn't know when to get it out of the oven  Taste - 10 out of 10 - I really liked the taste (So did mum & dad when I brought some home) Will I make them again - Maybe because they tasted really good, but Katie did some things wrong and they had some burnt bits on them :)   Note from mum - Thanks very much for making them lasses - I thought they were a delicious treat for my 'eighter'

ROAST MUTTON FOR TEA!  We never had our 'Sunday denner' yesterday as we were just back from having a sleepover for a wedding, and so just had heated up lentil soup for lunch, and quiche for tea.  We felt like we needed our Sunday fix so Mum and Dad made a 'Monday denner' instead.  Willa's ratings:  Easy to get the ingredients - Yes, we ate local today - we got the mutton from Granny Linda & Da Wilbert, and the eggs for the Yorkshire puddings from them too! We got the 'Bressay tatties' and all veg from Tetley and Anderson, apart from the broccoli, which we got from Tesco on Saturday, but overcooked it and it was looking a bit droopy.  We even used Shetland salt.   Me and Granny Linda & Da Wilbert's Hens  Easy to make - Yes, Mum put the lamb in the the oven and slow cooked it, and prepped all the tatties and veg - then she took me swimming so Dad took over and cooked it, and made the Yorkies.  My sister Nina says Dad makes the be...

Hello!!! I'm Willa Mae.  I am 8 years old and live on a small island called Whalsay in Shetland. I am very interested in cooking, baking and generally being as healthy as possible!  I have a health condition called Craniopharyngioma which means that I need to have a lot of appointments at the hospital and with people who help to keep me well.   I have started this page to share some recipes that we are making at home.  I will be very honest and tell you my thoughts on the recipes that we try!  I plan to rate them on: - How easy to get the ingredients? - How much did I enjoy making it? - How much do I like the taste? - How likely am I to make it again?  I hope that some of you will try some of the things that we cook and bake on my blog :)  I may also throw in some other wellbeing activities that I do to keep healthy and happy :) I sometimes type up my blog myself, or sometimes I tell Mam and Dad what to write and they do the typing for me! ...
